The Academic Writing Studio was founded to improve upon traditional English tutoring, which often divides focus between multiple language skills in live, 1-1 meetings. While helpful, these broad and rigid programs lead to slow progress. In contrast, our approach focuses exclusively on writing, the skill that most impacts academic success and future careers.

We’ve worked with students from elementary school to college and have seen that solid writing skills are commonly lacking but are also the most in demand. We believe the best way to improve writing is simple: do more writing. With guidance from experienced instructors, students can hone their writing skills more effectively and see faster results. Writing isn’t just a core component of English Language Arts; it’s a crucial skill in all areas of school and business.

As the founder of The AWS, Patrick has over 15 years of experience as an educator and has taught writing and English language skills to students from diverse backgrounds and grade levels. He has an MA in English Literature from the University of Calgary and a BA in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
